Dentures

If you have a few or all of your teeth missing, one solution is to have a denture. A denture is often the simplest and most economical replacement option for missing teeth. Dentures can be made in simple plastic, or a more advanced flexible plastic material. Dentures can also be made on metal bases for added strength, stability and rigidity.

Precision attachment dentures are dentures with plastic clip inserts that attach to studs on a dental crown or dental implant. We are proud to offer our patients advanced denture techniques by our clinical denture technician. Dentures can now be bespoke and customised down the every last detail you request.

FAQs

It is advisable that you remove your dentures at night in order to give your jawbone and gums an opportunity to relax. This is also a good opportunity to give your dentures a thorough cleaning and let them sit in denture solution overnight, which is important for the longevity of your dentures. Dentists recommend that you never wear your dentures for a full 24 hours. If you are travelling, or have a busy social event coming up, try to find a few hours during the day to remove and clean your dentures.

You will need to take some time to get used to doing normal everyday things with your dentures in your mouth. The dental adhesive used to secure them to your gums will work wonders at keeping your dentures in place, but there are certain foods that are best avoided. Sticky, hard candy and gum should be avoided as they may cause a break in the adhesive seal. This may result in your dentures becoming dislodged. You should be fine with most foods, although some foods, like crunchy fruits and vegetables, may need to be cut into smaller pieces before you can eat them.

It’s important to keep your dentures as clean as possible so washing them daily is a must. You can’t brush them with normal toothpaste and a toothbrush due to the different, and sometimes harsh, ingredients found in toothpaste. Use a special brush, specifically for dentures and make sure you soak them overnight in denture cleaning solution.

Dentures are a great long-term solution for those who have lost some or all of their teeth. They are custom made for each individual patient who seeks them so the fit should essentially be perfect. If you feel your dentures have become loose, make an appointment and see your dentist. There may be something wrong with the dentures, which can be fixed. Another reason your dentures may have become loose may be due to bone resorption or shrinking gums. If this happens to you, it may be time to be refitted, or consider an implant retained denture option, please speak to our team for more information on this.

Very minor discomfort is normal when you first start wearing your new dentures, but this should pass within a few days as you become accustomed to your new teeth. Pain levels will also depend on whether or not you have had teeth extracted prior to being fitted with your new dentures. If you are concerned about the pain, or the pain seems to be continuous, see your dentist.
